I just upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1 on my home machine, and did some clean installs of 9.1 on some machines at work. On all the machines, the fonts look really bad, specifically in Opera. I was able to fix this problem in 9.0 by simply running YOU and installing the MS True Type Fonts. It doesn't seem to work in 9.1. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, Chris

Yes, you must enable the bytecode interpreter in the freetype lib assuming that you can do so legally (see www.freetype.org), a task of moderate difficulty. The instructions can be found here (might require minor modifications to make it suitable for 9.1, so use your head): http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2001/11/mfabian_bytecodeinterpreter.html I think the only trouble I had was the build command in 9.1 is different. Look in the printed manuals, which tell what RPM building command to use. If you do this then TT fonts will display perfectly. It is a serious problem that this cannot legally be shipped enabled to all users. I think it is a huge obstacle to the suitability of Linux for professional desktop use. In my view, the fonts are a very big deal, and they make Suse 9.1 desktop OS look like hobby-ware without using the bytecode interpreter. :-( Good day! -- _____________________ Christopher R. Actually, it seems that most apps look okay, but Opera looks terrible for some reason. According to the article above, it says that you only have to enable the bytecode interpreter in versions earlier than 8.0. "Note: This SDB article is only for SuSE Linux 7.3. In SuSE Linux 8.0, the byte code interpreter is already switched on" In 9.0, all that had to be done was to download the MS True Type Fonts using YOU and fonts looked okay in every app. This doesn't seem to be the case in 9.1. Has anyone been successful in making the fonts in Opera look okay in SuSE 9.1? Chris
