Hi again, I have another little quirky experience in SuSE 7.3 Pro. I have the rc_config editor in YAST 2 to change my keyboard settings so that at startup, the number lock is on for my keyboard. This works in init 3 mode, but when KDE is booted up in init 5 mode, it disappears. This happens regardless of whether I just boot up into KDE or whether I do an su command and shift to init 3 mode and then to init 5. What gives? The other quirky little experience you ask? I can't for the life of me get the little green console (log or something like that) back that used to pop up at startup in KDE when my SuSE 7.3 was still a virgin system. This has been gone for a couple of months now. I am the only user and I have not upgraded to KDE 3. I m still using 2.2.1. Cheers, Brian

That setting is only for console mode. Hit ctrl-alt-f1 to get a console. I think you'll find the numlock led lights up. (hit ctrl-f7 to get back to X). Getting numlock to start automatically in X is discussed in the sdb. http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/cg_x11numlock.html

Do you have the package splashanim installed? What happens when you do mk_initrd? You should get a message saying something like "concatenating splash image". Don't forget to run /sbin/lilo if you run mk_initrd. //Anders
