[opensuse] USB3 drive not recognized
Hi, I recently purchased a Seagate STDT4000200 Backup Plus Desktop drive. When I boot the laptop with the drive connected, all is fine (AFAICT). But when I boot the laptop without the drive and plug it in later, the drive is not recognized. More, when I shutdown the laptop with the drive plugged in, the laptop does not shutdown fully. Any suggestions where to look for clues ? cat /proc/partitions gives nothing for the drive when plugged in later. journalctl -f is silent when plugging in the drive. Thanks, Koenraad -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

dmesg output when it works and when it does not work would be useful. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Try disabling uas driver for this device: First, create a file named ignore_uas.conf in the /etc/modprobe.d directory containing the following: options usb-storage quirks=Vendor_ID:Product_ID:u In your case 0bc2:ab36:u You will need to recreate initrd then (mkinitrd).

You mean when you close the lid? This may be intentional. Closing the lid is typically "suspend", and USB devices may remain powered. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Carlos, What I'm talking about is really shutting down the laptop. Equivalent to "shutdown -h now", although I didn't try that specifically. Koenraad. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
