[SLE] Using bash to change current environment, or...?
Hey, If I wanted to run a bash script to, say, check out a tree from a cvs repository, and then leave me with a modified environment, how would I do it? There seem to be two basic approaches to this. One would be to somehow run a bash script that changes things in the invoking shell. I believe this can be done, but I don't know how. The other option is to run a script that invokes a shell which is not exited when the script finishes. Many, many years ago I knew how to do the latter in DOS. Does anybody have good ideas on how to do this? My specific question has to do with checking out the mozilla tree, and building it. http://www.mozilla.org/cvs.html#checkout I would more or less like to script all the steps they go through in the instruction, and keep my $CVSROOT and some other variable when I'm done. Any clues? I have a SuSE Linux box Pentium 200 MMX, 80 MB RAM, 4.3 GB HDD. I want to connect it to my cable modem. AFAIK, the cable modem, made by RCA has it's own IP address, and acts as a DHCP server. the Cable Television Modem (CTM) assigns an IP address, based on a hostname, which is basicly like a serial number. In case it matters, the service provider is @home TIA tdowning31@home.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

I use @home, and I do not have to worry about the cable modem at all. Just setup your ethernet card with the IP address that is provided. Set your hostname to whatever it is they assigned you. Mine is c151460-a, and my domain name is alton1.il.home.com, and then use the DNS servers that they have provided. You can set everything up using Yast. When I ran the 6.3 install (YaST2) everything was in English except for one dialog that had to do with configuring the display was in German. I could make out that it was using 640x480 resolution. how do I change that so that I can use 1024x768x24bpp (I9ve used that setup with that board before with Corel and Red Had Distros both of which properly recognized the chipset, (Rage Pro) on my ATI All-in-Wonder PCI 8MB Please Help! -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Mediaone/Road Runner also uses the MAC address of the NIC, so you cannot change the NIC without either calling Mediaone or overiding the NIC's MAC address in software. "T Downing" wrote:
