[opensuse] libreoffice 3.3 in openSUSE 12.2 -- no duplex printing in LO 3.6, 4.1
Hello: I would like to go back to LibreOffice 3.3, the last decently working LO version. Despite of the UI changes (removing indication of text boundaries), LO 3.6 and 4.1 does not print duplex pages. Even if I select duplex--long side, LO disregards the setting. Duplex works fine in Adobe Reader. This is an unacceptable bug which has not been fixed for more than a year. How could I install LO version 3.3 in openSUSE 12.2? I could not find any repo with 3.3 packages. Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Do you have HP printers? This is not a problem with LO in general, just some printers. I've just printed duplex long side and it worked perfectly on an officejet 73xx series. However, the option wasn't even offered for my Laserjet P1606, even tho that printer supports it. If you have HP printers installed, the problem is more likely with HPLIP, not reporting capabilities properly for all printer types. There is a newer HPLIP on HP's web site, for hplip-3.13.11.run which will upgrade your hplip, (automatically) but requires a competent build environment. http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html Having just installed that, I see that it now offers values for the duplex capability to LO, but not the ability actually turn it on. Calligra will print the very same document in duplex mode (where as it didn't offer that with the old Hplip. So there is still some disconnect between the LO and HPLIP. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is also related to selecting the correct PPD file that supports all the functions of your printer. The options are offered correctly, but it seems not used correctly. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for your answer.

No, this is Kyocera printer with KDPL3 driver (ppd file).
This is not a problem with LO in general, just some printers.
The same printer with the same ppd file worked with LO 3.4 in openSUSE 11.2. It does not work with LO 3.6 and 4.1 in openSUSE 12.2. Selecting the same printer-same driver in Adobe reader: the printer works correctly. One more thing: when I try to print duplex in LO 4.1, the printer pulls back the paper sheets, as it does when prints duplex, but leaves the other sides empty. Any idea? I tried Apache OO 4.0.1 and it has the same issue. Off: While I prefer Apache OO to LO as it shows all text boundaries simultaneously, I miss crystal icons and KDE3 integration for file selection. Thanks, Istvan Have you tried the legacy version (3.3)? http://www.openoffice.org/download/legacy/index.html Not sure if it is compatible with your system though.

[snip] OK, I found something: In the print window Print -> Poperties -> Device, there is a pulldown menu called "Printer Language Type" which is set to "Automatic: PDF". If I select here "PostScript (Level from driver)" option, duplex printing works correctly. Now I have three questions: 1. Theoretical: What is "Automatic: PDF" print option, and why is it set as default? 2. Theoretical: Why does not work this correctly? 3. Practical and IMPORTANT: How can I make option "PostScript (Level from driver)" sticky? After restarting LO I have to select it again. I found it. See comment 'answered Nov 30 '13 by Laszlo' at http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/413/change-default-printer-language-t... Shortly, in Tools -> Options -> Libre Office -> Print: untick "PDF as Standard Print Job Format". Restart LO.
