I just noticed an updated EMU10K1 driver on SourceForge, and had a question: Has anyone successfully installed the driver? I also have been looking at the DRI project for RADEON drivers. Has anyone gotten these to work on a SuSE Linux 8.0 Pro? -- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

Well, I installed the Gatos project ati.2 drivers and all appears to be working, although I get "direct rendering: No" when I do glxinfo. When I do "3Ddiag" all tests out OK. And, "3Ddiag --mesasoft" fails, showing that some other 3D rendering is turned on. Whenever I did the sax2 thing, "init 3" then run sax2. I would get all the video fine, except that 3D apps, and screen savers would refuse to run. The Screen savers would even lock up the machine. I am running a RADEON QD according to 3Ddiag, which I think is equivalent to a RADEON 7000. What it is, is the 64MB DDR with Video in/out just before they started numbering them. Well, I meant the .20a version or any of the others from the EMU10K1 project. as far as "working" the drivers from SuSE are working fine, but the full 3D support from my Live! is not enabled and DVD's don't sound as good. -- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

Well, I am back from vacation and just for giggles I tried to run TuxRacer. It didn't work, obviously the 3D functions and hardware acceleration are NOT enabled. I really wish I could get this running. I never would have thought that installing a video driver could be so darn hard. I have a 64 MB DDR Radeon VI/VO Card that is absolutely worthless in Linux. I tried to install the DRI projects drivers but everything went screwy. my video was so bad I had to start Linux in safe mode and reinstall X and related patches. Just restoring the files, and uninstalling DRI According to their directions wouldn't work. I thought for sure someone on this list would be running a similar card and could email me a copy of what they did to get theirs setup right, but after repeated attempts it appears that no one has got this card or doesn't have it running right. If ANYONE could please, tell me what to look for in the XF86Config, and what drivers, where to get them, etc. I would be extremely grateful. sax2 DOES NOT work, neither does just running glxinfo, or 3Ddiag, or YAST2, etc. -- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

Ummm... if you have a driver that supports 3D, then mesasoft should fail!

Well, actually a Radeon 7000 is equivalent to a VE... not sure what the QD is, but I have a Radeon 7000 in one machine and a 7500 in another... both run GL apps just fine, including Quake 3 at 1280x1024.
What XFree packages do you have installed? (hint: Do an "rpm -qa| grep -i xf") Make sure you have xf86_glx installed. - Herman -- "DRM... Digitally Retarded Media - content that cannot reach its full potential because of artificial restraints."

Well I remember doing the "rpm -qa" before, but here goes: the output to "rpm -qa | grep -i xf" is: xfsprogs-2.0.0-39 gdkxft-1.5-88 xf86_glx-4.2.0-107 xf86tools-0.1-361 xf86_3x-3.3.6-375 xfine-2.8-469 xfntscl-4.2.0-64 XFree86-compat-libs-4.2.0-64 xforms-0.89-525 xf86html-2002.3.19-3 xf86-4.2.0-107 is any thing missing? -- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

Looks okay.... The edited list are the most important ones. So, now the next question is... what is in your XF86config (it should be in /etc/X11 - Herman -- "DRM... Digitally Retarded Media - content that cannot reach its full potential because of artificial restraints."
