[opensuse] can't mount removable media in 11.2
Hello: I can not mount removable media (CD, DVD, USB drive) in openSUSE 11.2. I am using KDE 3.5.10 from KDE repo (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.2/). When I insert media the system recognizes it correctly and places the corresponding icon on the desktop. (DVDs and audio CDs can be played.) But when I try to mount/open the device I get the following error message: "org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action, result)" in a window titled "Error - kio_media_mounthelper". Googling resulted in some similar issues in 11.1 however I could not find a working solution. What I learned is that the problem probably is related to policy permissions. One more thing that also might be related (but I'm not sure): in YAST->Security and users->Local security->Predefined security configurations is set to "custom settings" and I can not change it. Even if I click to either "home workstation" or "networked workstation" the new setting is not conserved, it is reset to "custom setting". Any hint or idea how to fix this? Try polkit-action --reset-defaults org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable as root.
Thanks, Istvan

Thank you. I ran the above command and now the message is: "org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)". Still can not mount devices. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is "ck-list-sessions | grep active" true?

"org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no Still can not mount devices.
Is "ck-list-sessions | grep active" true?
# ck-list-sessions | grep active # # ck-list-sessions # Both command above gives an 'empty line answer', so I guess it is not on/true. What is ck-list-sessions? Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

# ck-list-sessions | grep active #
# ck-list-sessions #
Both command above gives an 'empty line answer', so I guess it is not on/true.
It should return the properties of at least one session here with "active=TRUE".
What is ck-list-sessions?
It lists the properties of the sessions managed by consolekit. Try checking whether consolekit and dbus are running, then log out and log in via kdm. Try using KDE4 kdm instead of the KDE3 one. Don't use startx or you'll have problems. I'm afraid I don't know much more about consolekit to help you if it still fails to work.
Thanks, Istvan

It seemed that my session were not registered by consolekit. Not only graphical but terminal session were affected as well. I have removed all policy* and consolekit* packages and reinstalled them. This fixed the problem. Thank you for your help, I would never have found ck-list-sessions and consolekit myself.
