Annoying:
One friend tried to install S.u.S.E. Linx 5.2 on a Thinkpad 760XL with the diskette. After teh LILO prompt, it says loading init<something> and then loading linux.. and then freezes. I've tried telling LILO to load linux floppy=thinkpad with the same result.
The (english) supportbase only tells about random breakdowns so what now?
I have the exact same problem with a Thinkpad 760E. I haven't seen much on the Linux Laptop support database either :-( I have tried with Debian 1.3.1, and was going to try with SuSE next. I guess I won't bother until I find out more. My suspicion is that it has something to do with the drive. I don't think that LILO is handling the Thinkpad disk correctly. Linux runs fine, but I have to boot with loadlin. I tried the linear and compact tags (seperately and together) and still nothing worked. I have a 2.1GB drive, so the geometry is weird. You will need the floppy=thinkpad setting or you will not be able to use the floppy. IBM decided to invert the bit that determines if there is a disk in the driver or not. Sigh. So is mine - the floppy drive.

I have a 5 GB disk, and LILO can boot linux off the last partition (1œ GB of Linux). Problem is only to install it with the floppy. I installed Linux off the CD, but I have a hard time explaining my friend that Linux is superior to NT, when he can't even install it properly as described in the manual.

I tried that already. No luck. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
