can't install WordPerfect 8 on SuSE 7.0
Has anyone successfully install WP 8 on SuSE 7.0 with KDE2? I have the commercial WP 8, not the download version. I installed it on commercial ver SuSE 6.3 with kernel 2.2.13 and it is running perfect. I cannot install it on 7.0 with kernel 2.2.16. I get all kinds of errors that scroll too fast to see what's going on. Is it because of the new kernel 2.2.16? TIA jozien
Have you tried there website? 2.2.16 kernel is getting kinda "old" and they may have an update for it. I do not know what there website is though... Matt On Mon, 5 Feb 2001, Joseph Zieniewicz wrote:

They have several sh loaders for WP for different distros. Check the support section for Linux or under Linux Wordperfect. www.corel.com -- Best regards, Gary Today's thought: My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.

Don't know if this will help you too much, I installed Suse 7.0 and the Wordperfect 8 included in the CD this weekend. This is on my wife's computer. She has not used it yet so I do not know how well it works, but the application loads and it open the files I used to test it. There were no conflicts between Suse 7 kernel 2.2.17? and Wordperfect. Thanks to all that replied. I did check the Corel site and there was a message in their FAQ that refereed to a similar problem in 6.4. The answer was to install shlibs5.rpm from series "a" which I did and all is well so it works in 7.0. Series "a" is the base system. jozien

Interesting coincedence; I just posted the same thing last week. I found that on my old hardware, an AMD586x133 and 2 speed cdrom , the istall went fine with SuSE 7.0. However, with my newwer hardware, Athlon800 and 48 x cdrom I have the same results as you. Afterwards I thought the problem may be hardware associated. I searched the corel web site but found nothing, I also posted on the corel bulletin board but didn't get back to check it out. Are you using new hardware? If not perhaps it is something with kde2? I am not sure if I have kde2 installed on my older system with SuSE 7.0, but I do have it installed on the newer system that doesn't work. I used the command line installation, but there maybe library incompatibilities . Don't give up, some have installed it on SuSE 7.0, we just need to find out what is different about our systems. If it isn't hardware releated, perhaps it is the choice of libraries we installed. joe

Installing it right now, after my previous post I went back to Corel to check the newsgroups and sure enough there were replies. The answer was installing the shlibs from the "a" section of the selection of packages to install. Ironic, almost all of the packages in the "a" section were installed but not the shlibs. Give it a try, and good luck. Also if that doesn't work try going to the corel web site and check the wordperfect 8 for linux newsgroups. joe
