I know it's a stupid question, but there are plenty of newbies on this list.<
Not at all stupid! It's a good question and I know I'll find the answer useful, also. Rgds Mike G4OTY

bianiaries are precompiled "programs" at first glance a precompiled program looks more attractive (easier) but the reality is compiling it yourself will give you a nicer install. Once you do it a few times , you get used to the way of the Makefile, INSTALL and READMEs... youll see the difference. When you install a bianary... its like where's my .rc file? wheres the exe?? wheres this whers that....etc. Its excellent experience in the world of linux to compile from source. A good tip is to cd ito the dir where the source is with a few terminals open the INSTALL in one a README in another and give the commands in another... you'll be a pro in no time - compiling is where you really can appreciate parts of the system. Its just a cool thing to do! Give it a try rob -- Linux Home page http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm
