[SLE] Backing Out Kernel Update
Is there a way to back out a kernel update as applied via YOU? Whenever I update the kernel I need to re-install VMWare and the NVIDIA driver. This has always worked well for me in the past but it always makes me nervous. I'd feel better if I knew how to back it out. I have 9.3. Use the command line, rpm, to install whichever kernel you want. The kenels installed by YOU are normally saved locally in /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/9.3/. Notice that normally the kernel involves more than one rpm file. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Ahh, but that directory is empty since I have checked the box that says not to save the updates. I thought those where only patches/updates, not full rpms. Dores anyone know if the down-level rpms available from a SuSE web or ftp site? Too bad of you :-p
Dores anyone know if the down-level rpms available from a SuSE web or ftp site?
Of course, from any update mirror. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Carlos, Thanks -- downloaded the current version of the kernel RPMs and installed the new. All went well, including vmware and nvidia so I didn't need them other than to give me the courage to install the update. Thanks. The original is always available from the original CD/DVD set, and the mirrors as long as the version remains supported. After all the recent talk about backing out a kernel upgrade, today I did a manual upgrade on 10.1, leaving me with 2 to choose from. -- "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." If you use smart to update your system then, provided that the installed kernel is marked as 'multiversion' (which it should be by default), then the old kernel is left in place and an entry pointing to it is added in the grub boot menu so that you can boot with it if you want.
