My file looks similar, apart from lacking the two winbind entries, judging from the name the are probably significant!
Well winbind is just there to allow me to authenticate against an NT box. They shouldnt be relevant to your problem.
My W2K box is fine!
Well I'm out of ideas, I've found the projects homepage here: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/smbfs/ it appears to be under active development, so making sure you have the latest version might be an idea, otherwise the samba lists might be a better resource. Regards, Ben

Which suggests that it will only work *if* my remote login and pw are the same as on my nix box, since it essentially syncronises the smb and nix credentials. This is not the case for me!
