[SLE] Floating point exception with Setiathome client, Cyrix M2-333 and SuSE 6.3...
Greetings! I recently changed my motherboard to an AOpen MX69 2 Socket-7 VIA MVP4 motherboard and a Cyrix M2-333MHz CPU. I'm running a compiled 2.2.13 kernel from SuSE 6.3 distribution. The setiathome client, the latest version for both i386 and i686, exits after a short while with a "floating point exception" error message. Supposedly, this problem is supposed to be fixed in the current version. Looking through the SuSE archives, someone wrote to turn off the math emulation and mttr features in the kernel. I tried that and it didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks! After much trial and error, I discovered that the i686-static version of the setiathome client is what I needed to sucessfully run on my Cyrix M2-based system. Strange. Hopefully, my stats will improve with the new system. :) Thanks! I take that back... it crashed after five minutes. :( Christopher Reimer -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Check out version 2.4.i386-pc-linux-gnu-gnulibc2.1 of setiathome. Also xsetiathome. Trash temporary and pid sah files and start again. You are running a full version of SuSE I assume, then this will work for you. I certainly works for me. Athlon/SuSE6.4/2.2.14/15 and soon 16/17. Remember you must start it from ITS home directory (or a configured directory) Regards, Bruce.

Check out version 2.4.i386-pc-linux-gnu-gnulibc2.1 of setiathome. Also xsetiathome.
No go. This is the same version that I had previously runned with an HX-motherboard and a Pentium 200MHz, but it doesn't work with a MVP4-motherboard and a Cyrix M2 PR333+. I definitely suspect the CPU is responsible. I'm just wondering if I have to configure the kernel differently to get it to work with the Cyrix. Anyway, I filed a bug report with setiathome people. I tried for ages to get setiathome to work on my Cyrix P150+, but eventually gave up. I reckoned it was a flaw in my processor, but maybe it's a general Cyrix thing. Thought I'd let you all know. Frommemory, I think there is a source version available. See if you can compile it for your system. The correct libraries will be defined then. Also check FDE->settings-->Information-->Processor (Stretch the window) and see is there are any hardware bugs. (fdiv_bug,f00f etc...)
If there is one, you may like to recompile your kernel (to say 386 processor) and around the bug to eliminate its effect Rebuild the Kernel. See Processor Type and Features in make xconfig Try kernel math emulation, There is also a cx486 Processor family option. Check MTRR on as well. Regards, Bruce. PS Sorry to hear that you are getting crap coverage of the Olypmics in the States. Its great here!!!
