Dear All, I downloaded a static binary chess game that I used to play on Linux Mandrake and I cannot get it to open on Suse 8. Everytime I try to run it I get an error message that the program cannot be found. I made it executable as according to directions. It uses the qt libraries. Any help will be appreciated. Sincerely, Marcia

It sounds like the program is not in your path. Try starting the program by calling the full program name. For instance '/home/marcia/programs/chess' if the program is called 'chess' and is placed in the directory '/home/marcia/programs/' Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

Dear Johnny, I have done this, too, already and it makes no difference. I even deleted all then downloaded again and still the same results. When I check the properties it says all the bytes are there but my system just will not recognize it and run it for some reason. Would anyone be willing to download this and try it themselves. It is a small program. The url page is http://141.35.2.84/allgpsy/rg/chess.html. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Marcia

I tried it. I can not get it to work either. No matter what user account I use, no matter what permissions I set, no matter how I call the binary. I have no explanation and no ideas. Maybe you should contact the creator, or try to see if you can find anything on google or some other internet search system. Best regards :o) Johnny :o) P.S. Please reply to the list only, so I do not get your messages twize. Thank you :o)

Dear Johnny & Rafael, Thank you both for downloading this and giving it a try. Rafael discovered that it needed the old libc.so. 5 library which is now in the shlibs5 package. I did a small search on google/linux and easily found the library for Suse 8. It installed just fine. I then downloaded the chess program again, did chmod u+x, and restarted my pc. It worked fine after that!:) I am so pleased. Thank you both for your great help. My husband and I live in the south and his son lives in AZ. They love to play this game and chat during the game which is a little perk of the program. The advantage of this chess game over others is that you do not have to connect to the chess servers to play and of course it is free.:) Thanks so very much again! Sincerely, Marcia P.S. I was reading that this shlibs5 library is necessary to get Wordperfect 8 to work on Suse 8, too.
