/etc/X11/Xresources "Ghostview.pageMedia: A4" In the USofA?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I just found this while troubleshooting an X problem. I'm not sure what it's used for, but you may recall that I have some concerns about such settings not been correctly adjusted for American systems. In the /etc/X11/Xresources there is a line "Ghostview.pageMedia: A4" which is almost certainly not correct. Does anybody know what that actually impacts? There is slight a possibility that it /is/ correct if it indicates the default from which other settings must deviate. I don't actually have an /etc/X11/Xresources file but I imagine the line affects the ghostview program, which you run using gv. It's unlikey it affects anything else (except possibly kghostview) since ghostview is an application. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.

Like trying to print postscript files from Konqueror? This may be the source of the problem I had with OpenOffice, and with the fsh documentation. What I'm really wondering is why I have been able to use gv successfully with that in place. Indications are, it had been there a while.

Did you look on google? My research on google indicates changing A4 to Letter. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

Quite possible. Try it and see. If it doesn't work you can always revert

Unlikely. I don't think OO relies on gv. There are also settings for ghostscript. (I think you comment out the line in /usr/share/ghostscript/7.05/lib/gsinit.ps starting (a4) by putting a % at the start.) Most printing applications for linux create PostScript and use ghostscript (but not ghostview) to format the output for the printer. Many applications tell ghostscript what paper size to use and you may find that changing this setting has little effect in modern linux versions. For example, the CUPS printer configuration has a default A4 setting, which will probably get passed to ghostscript when most applications try to print. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
I dont find that file on 8.2. Where would I go to change A4 to UsLetter or whatever its called as I still occasionally get page size errors. CWSIV On Mon, 2004-02-23 at 12:44, Steven T. Hatton wrote:
