Try restarting the alsa daemon. I had issues with alsa and NLD9, it took a few attempts to kill it and restart it, but once I did the sound was great.
Nothing helps. It has to be some SUSE problem because with Mandriva 2006 I had no problem with sound on NX6110. Problems are with SUSE 9.3 and OpenSUSE. juraj
Solution: Disable KDE's mixer support and use sound mixers for the ALSA sound system only (eg kamix). Proceed as follows: 1. Make sure all mixer appls have been unloaded 2. If the question (should KAMix start automatically immediately after you log in?) pops up when closing the mixer, confirm with Yes and skip to steps 13 and 14 of these instructions. 3. Start YaST Control Center and select Software ->Install and Remove Software 4. Search for "kdemultimedia" 5. Right-click the package kdemultimedia3-mixer then slect Delete and Remove Software 6. Press Accept in the lower right corner 7. Finish YaST Control Center 8. Open a console (eg press (Alt)+(F2) and run the command konsole 9 Enter the command su - in the console 10. Enter the Admin (root) password when prompted to do so 11. Execute the following commands in given order rcalsasound stop rm /etc/asound.state rcalsasound start alsactl store 12. Log the root user out of the console by pressing (Ctrl)+(D) 13. Enter the command kamix 4 14 Confirm the pop-up message (KDEInit could not start "checkHardware" 15. Added: I forgot you also must open mixer you chose to use, configure and make sure the "Mute" is off. Do not use KA Mixer. Beta 2 is solution. :-) Sound on HP Compaq nx6110 without problem. The only samll problem is with installer which does not recognize LCD monitor and installs AUO AUO monitor. It must be changed manually throught Yast. juraj
