Software giant is handed a major setback by the court, which says it won't reconsider its earlier decision. http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,56963,tk,dn080201X,00.asp I know that this is OT but I thought I'd post this because of possible impact on OS market. Curtis

This belongs on the lx-talk@big7.net list. That's what that list was set up for -- to keep these sorts of mails off the SuSE list. People who are interested in not-quite-OT posts can easily subscribe to that list by sending an empty message to lx-talk-subscribe@big7.net :-) At 09:41 PM 8/2/2001 -0500, you wrote:

Stop whinning and take a hike, one freaking post and the malcontents come crawling out of the word work. For crying out loud stop trolling and chill out. The other list was done as a courtesy by Christian. If you don't like it filter my email address. It's been well over a couple of months since an OT post. Get a life!!! Talk about rude. I only posted it since it has relavance to the OS market and especially in light of the financial belt tightening at SuSE. I'd think one simple post about this subject matter wouldn't send the more stoic SLE users into an apopletic fit. Guess I was wrong. Sorry I annoyed you. Don't worry I won't post again. But, IMHO ppl such as yourself have done a lot to kill the spirit that brought me and others to the list in the 1st place - shame. Have a good night. I agree- if you can't read the headers and bin the ones that you're not interested in, it's rather sad. I think I'll start complaining about posts about hardware/software I have no interest in. Terence

C'mon Curtis, that's an over reaction. Jonathan's post was quite civil. The signal to noise ratio on this list has improved dramatically since the news chatter was taken elsewhere, plus people like me have been able to remove filters on some email addresses, like Fred's and yours. Having the separate news list seems to be working out fine; don't rock the boat by deliberately posting OT to the SuSE list.

I must appologize to those that found my response to Jonathans replay offensive and especially to Jonathan himself. If you remember when the whole OT thing became an issue and Mads inquired about limiiting the posts about OT I freely acknowledge his concerns. Then Christian offered to set up his personal server for the OT posts and I was one of the 1st to join the lx-talk list in order to facilliate some sense of harmony on the SLE list. I have been very dilegent about not posting OT on the SLE list and have, up until last night, not posted "any" OT on SLE. I guess that I found it somewhat personally offensive that the "one" time I deviate from this behavior and I immediately get a reply such as I did. My intention was to simply drop a quick post to the SLE list about this development. I found it pertainent in light of the recent changes at SuSE and thought (obviously incorrectly) that it may be encouraging to know that the window of opportunity seemed to be opening in relationship to a better market environment for SuSE, Linux, and a viable consumer base. I was just frustrated because I tried to contribute a little peripheral information I felt had a direct impact on SuSE and it's costumer base. Once again, my appologies to all. Cheers, Curtis On Friday 03 August 2001 02:27, Derek Fountain wrote:

Can we keep the complaints about off topic posts to the other list. Anybody who wants to read the complaints can sub to that list. Nick

Thanks for the update; I find it helpful that items like this are posted to the list. Doesn't mean that everybody needs to start a neverending discussion. That option can be directed to the chat lists but this allows for one to know whats happening without having to get all the chat chatter filling the inbox. dave Curtis Rey wrote:

I heartily agree. And yes I *am*, in a sense, just lengthening the thread by voicing this opinion. If Curtis' original post had been allowed to pass without comment (as one or two other of the same kind have recently), there would be no need for me to do so. I'll go with that, its a shame that the SuSE has lost some its atmosphere, but that should at least rekindle it a bit. By the way I am not about to be bullied down by non-mailing list owners who want things 100% their way. Who actually suggested that OT postings get moved?? Matt

I made that thing happen with only one reason in mind: bandwith. We're
sharing the bandwith for this server with ftp.suse.com, and I'd rather
give the bandwith to the ftp-users (who suffer enough already) than use
it here on OT stuff.
Please read the thread about this matter from:
