why not "linux single" (or linux -s) at the lilo prompt? -----Original Message----- From: Marc Leeman [SMTP:Marc.Leeman@esat.kuleuven.ac.be] Sent: Friday, January 07, 2000 12:24 PM To: Sam Cc: SuSE Subject: Re: [SLE] Root Password? Sam wrote:
I installed SuSE 6.3 on a 486 machine with a minimal setup. The new YAST program asked for a "root" password. During the normal boot after installation, while at the login and password prompts, I entered "root" and the "root password" respectively, but it returns a message about an incorrect login.
Is there any way to fix the root password short of re-installing the entire system?
Thanks!

booting with floppy (rescue disk), and chanching the shadow passwordlist. root:key:10921:0:10000:::: to root::10921:0:10000:::: you may possibly remove the root entry in the /etc/passwd (delete the line). I forgot if I had to do that the last time when some !#@%$!@ changed my pwd. marc -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

text/plain attachment: ssinfo.txt_
-- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Because S requires the root password. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
