now I fixed the java path stuff by doing:
export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/opt/jakarta/lib/servlet.jar export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/jdk1.1.8/bin/
But this only solves the problem that suse doesn't set up java paths automatically. Why to hell not?
Now I am trying to run a simple example of pdflib and I get attacked with more errors:
/usr/lib/jdk1.1.8/bin/javac PdfServlet.java PdfServlet.java:51: Undefined variable or class name: pdflib p = pdflib.PDF_new();
and:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pdf_new() in /usr/local/httpd/htdocs/pdflib/file.php on line 2
I tried:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib/pdflib/pdflib.jar and export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/usr/lib/pdflib/pdflib.jar
but it won't help anything. Why doesn't SuSE put the damn libraries and stuff into the paths where to hell they belong so a program can find them.
Does SuSE's rpm come pre-compiled with php_pdf.so support???
Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) (SuSE/Linux) ApacheJServ/1.1.2 mod_fastcgi/2.2.2 mod_ssl/2.8.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 balanced_by_mod_backhand/1.1.0 mod_perl/1.24 PHP/4.0.4pl1

I think u have not set the CLASSPATH. The javac is trying to look for the javax.servlet.. package. Its first check the default location and then checks CLASSPATH variable. Just try CLASSPATH='PATH' export CLASSPATH
Then it should work.

what is up with SuSE and java? 7.1 here.
I got java dk and java runtime installed. Neither one shows up in the path.
which java which: no java in (/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin)
Ok that is all fine because I could adjust my path but heck I then use a full command /usr/lib/jdk1.1.8/bin/javac and I get upon another problem:
PdfServlet.java:20: Package javax.servlet not found in import. import javax.servlet.*; ^ PdfServlet.java:21: Package javax.servlet.http not found in import. import javax.servlet.http.*; ^ PdfServlet.java:23: Superclass HttpServlet of class PdfServlet not found. public class PdfServlet extends HttpServlet ^ PdfServlet.java:24: Interface SingleThreadModel of class PdfServlet not found. implements SingleThreadModel ^ 4 errors
I think it is trying to look for servlet-2.0.jar or something and can't find it. I did a find and its nowhere.
help appreciated,
mk
