And it's not the Europeans. Even without the shipping charge, 79.45 euro is just a bit over $125. So that's double the price. Guess that's where they are making the "profit". I live in Canada and have bought the boxed version a few times in the past. However, this time the only means of shipping to Canada is via UPS, which I refuse to use, due to their obscene border brokerage fees. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's not exorbitant because you don't have to pay it. You can download it for free. Don Henson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is it just me who can't see the list of what's actually included in the box? What set of DVDs / CDs for which hardware platforms and what complement of packages? I am also curious how many repositories I'd have to configure to duplicate the supplied package set. If it's just a core DVD for x86 and x86_64 and that meager "Start-up" manual, then I think it's overpriced. In fact, I'd prefer to buy it without that manual and just get stamped discs with the latest geecko art staring out at me (assuming they don't use double-sided discs). Of course, there is the installation support, but I've never needed that, either (I wonder how many purchasers of the boxed sets do?). On the other hand, I like to have a full complement of packages on disc and would just as soon avoid the tedious hours of download, even if they don't seem to require any real hand-holding or oversight. That's even more true for me nowadays, since I have business partners using my system, and they don't like it when the DSL line is clogged. And as ever, I'd like to support Novell's effort and investment in producing what I have always and still do think is the best Linux distribution going. (And I'm not likely in the near future to purchase SLED or SLES, though that may come to pass eventually.) Anyway, I would like to know precisely what media and software I'd be getting for my $60 before handing it over.

Well, I suppose I could do that, if I knew someone down there. The border's little more than an hour drive from here. There's no duty on software, though there is a federal tax. The solution to the problem would be to get the shippers to realize the problem with shipping UPS. For something like this, the post office is good enough, or if a courier is necessary, go with FedEx. I raised a huge stink about this last time I bought a boxed set (10.2) and somehow managed to get Postal shipping. I had a similar problem in getting delivery to Alaska and anything other than abusive pricing. Complain loud and long to Shop.Novel.com customer service. The US Post Office is very easy to deal with these days. They will send a special truck for volume pickups, and allow on-line click-n-ship etc. There is no excuse for Novel to be lining the pockets of a so-called express shipper for something that won't be available for weeks. -- ----------JSA--------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

A while ago, I watched a TV show about border communities, that actually straddle the border. There was one house, where the front door was in Canada, but the bedroom was in the U.S. A person living in that house could legally drop U.S. purchases in through the bedroom window and then go around to the front door and walk in and there was nothing the government could do about it. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Now if they had a really good DNS country code, they'd have the perfect setup for some kind of cash-cow operation. What would the ".tv" counterpart be? .ups? (I know, country codes are two letters only.) Maybe the Michigan UP could be leveraged somehow?? RRS -- "That's it! It might be time to move this to off-topic or off-list as it certainly doesn't belong here at the present context and the quoting levels are past ridiculous. In Italy: SUSE 59.95 euros Shipping DHL 19.50 euros VAT 20% 15.89 euros 1 euro = $1.57 TOTAL $149.70
In Canada, $59.95, doesn't specify Canadian or U.S. dollars, though Canadian are worth more. There's $11 shipping, which I can live with, but the only shipping choice is UPS, which I refuse to use. UPS charges obscene brokerage fees for bringing stuff across the border. Based on previous experience, I wouldn't be surprised if Canadians paid as much to UPS as to Novell. No other carrier, be it FedEx, Purolator or good old snail mail charges anywhere near what UPS does. So, as long as UPS is the only choice for shipping, I will not be buying this.

Could you have it shipped to someone in the US and then have them mail it to you or does that induce customs problems? I just check the P.O website and a 1 pound package from Moses Lake, WA. USA to Kamloops, BC costs $4.76 US.
Any vendor that says they only ship UPS is telling me they don't want my business.
