[opensuse] 13.1 GNOME: leftover gnome-shell at 100% CPU after logout

Using GNOME with gdm. Quite often (if not every time) after logging out of session and logging back in I observe gnome-shell process that spins at 100% CPU (at least on one core). It is not my current gnome-shell which I can restart without changing anything. Killing this runaway process clears things.
