I Ž ve seen a IBM 6091 Monitor floating around, nice 19" Display, but it wonŽt work on a PC. DoesnŽt syncronise. I suspect it to be a Workstation Monitor. Any one running one of these on linux/*nix? Any one that knows anything about tech data? Could it be still VGA? (and therefor broken)
Have you tried it on Linux? XFree86 is rather more flexible than typical Windows9x video drivers. For example, it wasn't until I swapped my STB Velocity 128 and Belinea 10-60-90 cheapo 19" monitor into my Linux system that I discovered I could get 1600x1200 out of it - at a nice quick flicker-free refresh rate too. I've been running it like that ever since. Hi Ralph, Ian was helpful with pointing me to IBMŽs website, meanwhile IŽve found the "proper" info on that monitor. It is -frankly- that IBM itself doesnŽt know. ;-( All I got is EGA, CGA supported (although it wouldnŽt show any sync in DOS mode) and I got 1024x768 by 67 Hz, which is not much. They do not give any clock rates that are the basic input for any successful XF86 setup. The monitor is currently anchored at another collegue that wantŽs it working on winXX (good luck!) As soon as it starts floating again, IŽll make sure it floats into my direction. I know, that XF86 is very flexibel, but you need technical data that I havnŽt got. I expect some S3 Win based tools (i.e. comes with Elsa cards) to be helpful, and a tool we used with 3.11 to set registers for the CompaqŽs we got in 1997 since there were no drivers for 3.11 anymore. This baby is about 34kg and I donŽt like to carry it for nothing...., since it might still be broken. Juergen PS: Larry (Yates) are you still on this thread? Do you still need info on that cirquit for tricking the sync??? It does sound as if its broken. However, maybe there's another mode you could try. Given that the old 8514/A 024x768 interlaced mode was an IBM workstation display standard it's possible that is another mode this monitor would support. The mode line for your XF86Config is: # 1024x768 @ 87 Hz interlaced, 35.5 kHz hsync Modeline "1024x768" 44.9 1024 1048 1208 1264 768 776 784 817 Interlace Some (most?) new video cards don't support the old interlaced modes. For example, ATI mach64-based cards support it in hardware and the supplied DOS VESA drivers can handle that mode but the Win95 drivers don't; my STB Velocity 128 doesn't support interlaced modes at all, it seems to be entirely missing from the firmware or the hardware. So to check out interlaced modes you might have to get hold of an older graphics card. Of course, you might not want to bother, 8514/A is pretty horrible to look at compared with modern displays. -- rclark@virgosolutions.demon.co.uk Ralph Clark, Virgo Solutions Ltd (UK) __ _ / / (_)__ __ ____ __ * Powerful * Flexible * Compatible * Reliable * / /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / *Well Supported * Thousands of New Users Every Day* /____/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ The Cost Effective Choice - Linux Means Business! -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
