cdrecording as normal user - problems
I am helping a friend to set up his IDE CD-RW. He has set up everything correct and can write CD's using X-CD-Roast as root user. Problem is burning cd's as a normal user. X-CD-Roast has been set up to allow normal users, but when we want to write a CD, the following error is given: --<snip>-- Cdrecord-Clone 2.01a18-dvd (i686-suse-linux) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 Jörg Schilling cdrecord: Warning: not running as root user, fs= option ignored. Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support scsidev: '0,1,0' Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original. scsibus: 0 target: 1 lun: 0 Note: Please send bug reports or support requests to <warly@mandrakesoft.com>. cdrecord: Permission denied. Cannot open '/dev/pg1'. Cannot open SCSI driver. Note: The author of cdrecord is not to be bothered with problems in this version. cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root. TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'. --<snip>-- Looks like it tries to access the device through the parallel interface (/dev/pg1). This does not make sense. Why would it use that device as normal user, but the correct interface (/dev/sg1) as root user? Any ideas? After some more googling, I found references to similar problems with cdrecord on SuSE 9.0. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2003-Nov/0876.html Looks like the cdrecord (cdrecord-2.01a18-27) that comes with SuSE 9.0 is causing this problem. On my SuSE 9.0 box (upgraded from 8.2) I have cdrecord-2.01.a03-0 installed. So, now I want to try that version on my friend's machine, but I cannot find the rpm. I searched the update directories on the SuSE ftp servers as well as the apt repositories and google, but I cannot find where I got that rpm from. Looks like it disappeared. Does anybody know where I can find this version? Maybe my searches fail because I am not awake yet (only had one coffee so far). Does nobody else have this problem with cdrecord? (trying to use /dev/pg? instead of /dev/sg?)
