Tumbleweed, CD/DVD drive no longer detected after resume from suspend:
Hi, recently I received a HP Pavilion DV6 laptop. Installed openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240801 on the machine. I can play an audio CD with VLC. If machine is suspended and then unsuspended, then attempt to play the audio cd again with VLC, audio playback FAILS and produces error messages, > "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda:///dev/sr0'". This is an AMD A-6 4400 APU. Radeon HD 7520G Graphics. I do not think this is a very good answer.

All I currently have are more than 5 years old. Except two proprietary models in HD/DVD recorder/players, I'm not aware which of the 30-35 I have may no longer work properly, as they are very rarely used.
In Japan, it is said that the lifespan of a dvd drive is 3-5 years, whether we use it often or not, and I think that's about it, too?

In Japan, PCs and related products were expensive but good until the bubble burst. After 30 years of recession, it is hard to believe that used electronics are now being sold. It is self-evident that if you lower prices, manufacturers will inevitably lower quality, otherwise they will not be able to generate a steady income by selling in numbers..... I am currently using HP for both my desktop and laptop. Even so, I replaced the dvd drive in my laptop a year and a half ago, and changed the HDD to SSD while I was at it. I was able to add kernel parameter libata.noacpi=1 then update grub to /etc/default/grub. This does seem to have fixed the cd playback issue at this time.

Now days I build my own computers from parts. No CD/DVD players at all, just lots of USB ports (I cheated and the last DVD/Blu-Ray player/recorder I bought was a USB one so I could haul it around to where I might need it).

Having had the experience of building my own PCs, I know the pros and cons of manufacturer-made PCs. In Japan, I feel that HP and Dell PCs are the best. Even now, I sometimes feel like building my own PC, but I hesitate to do so because of my age... Anyway, USB connection is good. If I were to build my own PC, I would choose the USB connection. I have actually tried booting the machine from that prior kernel which is also installed. I did not seem to have success with this method though.
