[opensuse] howto use user-packages.xm in Yastl on new install?
Listmates, I have exported the list of installed packages from yast into the file "user-packages.xml". (or at least I think I have) I want to install the same package list on a new machine while performing a fresh install. My question is how do I use the the user-packages.xml for a fresh install on another box to auto select packages for install? The quandary is at what point in the install process will I be able to import the user-packages.xml list? Further, since the install will be on a fresh drive, how do I get the user-packages.xml file onto the drive and into the install? Network? floppy? swap CDs? As you can tell, I haven't done this before, but I would like to avoid the 90 minutes it takes me to pick through the entire package list to select the individual packages I want to install. None of the default package groups really work and usually I spend 5-10 trips back to software management to pick up obscure packages I have overlooked. Also, if I use the file before the packman and videolan repos are available, will the install bomb due to the missing repositories? Another Also, if the new box has different driver/module requirements (video/lan/etc..) will the package list screw me up by loading the wrong drivers? If anyone has done this or has some additional information on how to do it, I would welcome the input. Thanks! If this has been answered before or there is a good link, that would be great as well. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. I know that the file works if you are doing a network installation. IIRC, it seems that it is possible to use it with a disc installation. At the installation screen, choose to install a new system and type: autoyast=device://sdb1/autoyast.xml where sbd1 is the partition on the USB disk. Please let us know if this works for you.
