Hi: I have been looking at installing a Atapi/ide DVD drive in my SuSE 7.0 box, want to make use of some of the programs on the DVD. Will pretty much any Atapi/ide DVD work. I have been looking at the Acer 12x, I have had good luck with their CDROM drives. Are then any that I should stay away from. I am pretty much wanting to sitick to CompUSA in stock items for this. Thanks for your comments. -- Ralph F. Now, I'd like to update my kernel to 2.2.16 (or, even better, 2.2.17). When I tried installing the prebuilt kernels on ftp.suse.com, my machine crashed on boot. When I built the kernel myself, the boot failed because the initial ramdisk didn't have the correct files, and it couldn't mount the system. How do I go about updating my kernel and what changes do I need to make to update the initial ram disk? Does anybody have prebuilt kernels for 2.2.17? I'm running a dual Pentium-II system. Thanks, Eric
