Re: [opensuse] Broadcom bcm4311 not working
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Benjamin, It's best to reply to the list, so that others with the same problem can benefit from your discovery. I'm glad you solved it - that's another solution to add to my armoury ;-) My Dell laptop needs Broadcom wifi drivers, but I've always found my solution 1 did the trick. On my wife's Dell Vostro, I had to use solution 2. On 22/12/13 11:42, Benjamin wrote:
Thx Bob! I already solved the issue with the modified installer from here:

This installer worked without any problems and crash ion my machine!
Thx anyway!

Hallo! I did the follwing installation instruction for my bcm4311 card:
1 sudo zypper install b43-fwcutter 2 sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
After this the crash occured and after the restart the modules are loaded and not blacklisted … Still networkmanager does not show up with the wireless connection and also unblocking the devices via "rfkill unblock wifi/all" does not help. What is strange is, that "lspci" says that there is a the bcm4311 card and when i look it up in the hardwareinformation via yast it is specified as being a bcm 4312. Furthermore Yast does not show the card as a wireless device. Neither does "nmcli d" show up the device. Is it possible, that there is some kind of conflict between standard drivers and settings and the one i need? Help would be appreciated!!! Thanks anyway – Good N8t.
My system: Hp Compaq 6715s Opensuse 13.1/ Kernel 3.11 Hi Benjamin,
Broadcom chipsets can be difficult to setup. I would suggest two possible remedies. The first is easier, but if it doesn't work, the second comes with very easy to follow instructions in the ReadMe file:
1) Add the Packman repo, if you haven't already. Install the package broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-<flavour-of-your-kernel>. e.g. broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop or broadcom-wl-kmp-default, etc. Reboot.
2)Visit the broadcom website <http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php>
and download the relevant 32 or 64 bit driver package, as well as the README.txt file, which contains explicit instructions on how to install the kernel module.
HTH
