I want to compile the latest kernel source using menuconfig. I read the kernel how-to and miscellaneous other documentation on the subject but still haven't found anything that explains the options in menuconfig.
The journey on which you are about to embark requires an intimate knowlege of your motherboard an other hardware. This is one of my favorite resources for tuning: http://www.linux.com/tuneup/ Specifically, I benefitted a lot from reading this document: http://www.linux.com/tuneup/database.phtml/Kernel/000115.html The author is a little too gung-ho for me, but these guidelines are an excellent starting point. Remember, modular kernel design is a feature that the core development group has worked VERY hard on perfecting. USE THEM :). I have my ethernet, my SCSI card, IDE-SCSI emulation module, all of the network and disk types (except ext2 and ide), and my sound and sound card built as modules. I've never had a bit of trouble. -- -=|JP|=- (Resident GNUbie) Jon Pennington | SuSE Linux 6.2 -o) super-suser@excite.com | Kernel 2.2.10 /\\ Kansas City, Missouri | AMD K6-III 450 _\_V ________________________________________________________________ Get FREE voicemail, fax and email at http://voicemail.excite.com Talk online at http://voicechat.excite.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
