Hello, I was wondering if anyone has gotten an IDE CDR/RW to work with Kernel 2.2.10. I read the HOWTO and compiled in scsi emulation etc. but all this did was screw up my system (read the thread "boot problem"). Is there some newer info or any other advice? Thanks, David Bellows
David This isn't much help to you but that's exactly what happened to me. I can burn cds in W95 but imagined that Linux might be a bit more stable so I'd get less coasters. Can anybody who's burnt CD's in both confirm that ? If so I might have another go at recompiling the kernel, but my inclination at present is to leave it for now. Mike David Bellows wrote:

i have an HP 7200i (or something) 2x CD-RW. Use it mostly under linux but sometimes under winblows. I use SuSE 6.1 and kernel 2.2.10. Set all the right options when I did "make config" on the kernel and now it works. I use cdrecord to do the actual burning. Most of the time it works. A few days ago it stopped working under linux (got a lot of coasters) so I tried burning under windows. Burning under windows worked for a while, but then windows started craching when I was burning. So, I went back to linux and now linux seems to do a good job at burning :^| Oh well, guess I will switch back and fourth till I figure out what is wrong. All in all I prefer to burn under linux. There are more options (make bootable cd's mixed music and data cd make cds for linux and dos etc.) and there is less of a chance of linux crashing while you burn. Anyway, yes most of the time my IDE cd burner works just fine under linux! (and I love it -- what a cool toy!) later, Matt.
