Re: [SuSE Linux] Gateway problem & Gnome howto
* craig anderson (canderson_ca@hotmail.com) [990427 20:23]:
I have a few problems, I am very familiar with redhat but I am new to suse. I have a redhat box running ipchains that gives access to the internet to all the workstations connected to the local network. I am unable to get the route setup correctly to allow my suse box access to the internet, any suggestions. Also, anyone know where I could find a good gnome on suse 6.0 howto?
Hello Craig It sounds like you have a Red Hat box set up as a router plus address translator. If you've done your job right on the Red Hat box you should only need tell the SuSE machine to use Red Hat as its default route. As someone else stated, be careful about DHCP. If you turn on the dhclient package you _will_ need to have a DHCP server available. In contrast to what they stated, I have done packetdumps watching it attempt get a lease at the renewal time period.
If I should be posting these questions elsewhere please let me know.
Here is as good as anywhere probably. What does the routing table look like on the SuSE machine? What can it ping? What can't it ping? How does it's behavior differ from working nodes? Are you sure you set up routing to the SuSE box or your Red Hat box?
Thanks,
