Earlier this day I posted the below question for a friend. He wants to use the modem, which resides in his Linux box, via the Windows XP box. The answers I received so far, all deal with IP forwarding and using the modem to dialin to an ISP. He wants to use the modem for whatever reason, such dialin to an ISP, use it for electronic banking, etc. What he basically is looking for is a solution that enabales him to use the modem as if this modem were installed in his XP machine. There's a commercial solution available for this. This next link shows it: http://www.anzio.com/products/virtport.htm He's looking for a free implementation of the VirPort shown on the drawing. Regards, Robert.
Hi all,
I'm using an old computer as a Linux box with an internal ISA modem in it. My new computer, which runs on Windows XP :-(, has only PCI slots on board. Both machines are connected on a LAN. I was wondering if it was possible (I know it is, but not how) to use the modem in my Linux box via Windows XP over the network.

Just last night I stumbled across this on my SuSE 7.2 CD, as I was looking
for something else. I have no experience with it, but it sounds like a
lead in the right direction:
