Has anyone managed to find a practical way to listen to streaming audio on the web? It used to be that radio stations used to broadcast in some funky Windwos media format and Real Audio... now everywhere I look it is WMA, and Real Audio is gone for the links. Even within the RealAudio network, 9 times out of 10 the links to RA broadcastss are broken or don't support RA anymore. Even my favorite radio station Studio Brussel in Belgium is a MS flunky now. So the question behind the whining is... is it possible for a smart person (meaning a person who uses Linux of course) to play WMA streamed audio on Linux? C.

Currently not and it's unsure if there will ever be a solution because M$ has patents on blocks all attempts of supporting it on other platforms. Philipp

Streaming MP3 is my favorite, XMMS supports it out of the box. Check out http://shoutcast.com for a big database of streaming stations. - David A. Riggs

I was poking about in FreeAmp and discovered it also supports Shoutcast. This is not exactly what I had in mind when I started, but now that I gave it a whirl, this is much better than the RA option! And I wanted to avoid running WinMediaPlayer in Codeweavers if I could. Cool, thanks for the suggestion.... I have music again. C.

I got several great stations from Shoutcast that I run in XMMS. HardRockin80s.com being my personal fave. :-) Has anyone here figured out how to listen to live365.com broadcasts? Or recommend other places besides Shoutcast (great, but just looking for other options)? Launch is a joke since Yahoo bought it... Hello: I've had no trouble listening to Live365 channels with XMMS, although you don't get the playlist that way. George -- George H. I had not played with streaming audio until I read your message. shoutcast works 'out of the box as you indicated. So does live365.com. You just need to edit your "My Setting" area and tell it you want to use an MP3 player. When the stream arrives, Netscape (or whatever) will ask what you want to do with this stream. Tell it to open it and use the application: /usr/X11R6/bin/xmms That would seem to be all there is to it as I am listening right now. Scott

You can use Windows Media Player using Crossover Plugin from Codeweavers. http://www.codeweavers.com/ Clayton Cornell wrote:
