At my company we recently decided to upgrade one of our linux servers to a new box and current SuSE distro. The box is a compaq proliant 3000 with the built in compaq raid array controller. We are running 7.1 on a raid 5, 18gb reiser partition with the 2.4.0 kernel, also we are running NFS to a dozen or so clients. The setup is that 2 client machines mine, and a coworker are the only people allowed to write via nfs while the other clients have read only permission, We have moved most of our docs and developement branches to the server in order to get regular backups and what not. The problem is that atleast once every couple of days the NFS goes south, either we get stale nfs handles or permission denied errors(these occur on both client and server side as both user and root(imagine that root does not have permission?)) It seems that the only way to resolve this is to bounce both our machines and the server, this is obviously unacceptable as this is a production server used to host our home grown java apps for 50+ client machines either via read only nfs or samba. Does any one know if there are issues with Reiser + RAID 5(hardware) + NFS or do we have other unknown problems. -- ____________________________________________________________ Long live the Penguin!!!
