Perhaps the cable dropped down.

There is no error message on the router, and the logs in /var/log only indicate that the network is down and that the DHCP client is still waiting. <snip

From Yast, assign this card a static IP address. Let's see if there is a driver issue with this card in Linux. Since this is a dual boot machine and it works in windows, giving the NIC a static IP will be a good test to see the card can communicate with your network from your Linux install.
I did that. I just assigned the usual IP number in Yast (along with subnet mask and gateway), but I still cannot ping the gateway or other machines in the LAN, nor is it seen by them. ~~~~~ Give it another IP address, within the same subnet, and can you ping its address? Are there any errors when you type 'dmesg'? Are there any warnings in /var/log/messages? Also, could you ever ping your network with this NIC under Linux? For example, during the initial install could you download the updates? ~James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I tried with a different IP within the allowed range also with the same result as above. /var/log/messages does not show any warning, only the waiting message from the dhcp client. I did not run 'dmesg'. I have to try it later.

Yes, I did. The NIC was replaced last Friday with 10.1 already installed. I deleted in Yast the configuration of the old NIC and configured this one the same way as before (plain vanilla DHCP client) and it worked fine in the LAN and wide web until I booted first time into Windows again on Monday evening. When I came back to Linux it did not see the network anymore since. Physical connection is still OK.
