Update launchers disappeared from top panel
I am running SuSE Pro 9.2. Since I installed, there have been a couple of icons on the top panel that indicated when there was a system or application update available and allowed me to launch into the update app in YaST. A couple of days ago, the two icons disappeared. I can't figure out how to get them back, or, does this indicate that there are no longer be any new updates for 9.2? TIA Kelly -- Kelly J. Hi Kelly, 9.2 was released in October 2004, so updates should be provided until sometime in October 2006 or shortly thereafter... watch for the announcement on SLE. Also, the two icons are SUSEPlugger (for hot-plugging certain hardware) and SUSEWatcher (checks for available updates/patches in the background.) Did you install or remove any software... or update GNOME... anything like that just before the icons "disappeared"? Have you tried: * launching both utilities from the menu * confirm the icons 'land' properly in the panel again * log out and click *save setup(session?)* * do a Ctl+Alt+F1 at the greeter (switch to tty1 console) * log in as root * run 'init 3' (drop to runlevel 3 and completely shut X down) * run 'init 5 && exit' (switch back to runlevel 5 and log root out) * check to see that they've 'reappeared' in the panel regards, Carl

Carl - Thanks for the information. The only thing that I have installed lately was Google Picasa that uses WINE to install. I'll try the suggestions below. Many thnks. Kelly

You're welcome, Kelly. Good luck! BTW, I think I recently saw a thread here on SLE that Picasa is available for Linux. You might want to check the archive. regards, Carl

Picasa for Linux runs on a specially souped (wined?) up version of wine that is included in the package. AFAICT it is not a genuine Linux port. But it runs well. Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704
