[SLE] Linux network configuration
Hi everybody. There is an NT router in our network with the IP 10.10.10.1. That is also the DNS server. I'm using a linux box with the IP 10.10.10.80. programs like netscape are working well when proxy configurations are given. But all other programs (including ping, traceroute, every beautiful utility of linux networking you can think of) is not working. I'm constantly getting the error "Host not found." The contents of /etc/resolv.conf is the following: /* comments ... */ search jetpa.com.tr nameserver 10.10.10.1 Question is, how can I do a configuration so my normal network programs can work? Thank you. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Curious.. where is the option to not load xconsole by default? I can't seem to find the script for it.. Have a look at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm way down at the bottom. And the file name to look at is "Xsetup_0". Sorry for the confusion :) Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer 90443 Nuernberg, Germany -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Its a trivial matter to disable xconsole from running. In my case, I wish to let it run when KDM is running. However, every other time I log into X that ROOT OWNED xconsole will also be running on my NON ROOT X session. I thought this was against all X policy. The thing that bugs me about all this is that its not consistent: sometimes xconsole will be running when I log in, and sometime it will not. I want to run xconsole on my own, which is easy to do. But I don't want to close the root-owned xconsole when it starts up. Any suggestions? On Tue, Apr 25, 2000 at 09:16:58PM +0200, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

I don't know what xconsole is. If it is ran when you start X by default, it is probably in your .xinitrc file. jpsartre wrote:

Hm.. this doesn't seem to have been answered yet. If SuSE comes up in mode 3, you get full network support and X (if X is installed). If it comes up in mode 2, you get full network support but not X. Mode 1 doesn't have network support, but still supports multiple console sessions on your one console. You could change the definition of the different modes, but I recommend against it. I think you can use YAST to change the default. Or you could modify lilo.conf to provide multiple options for the different modes. You can specify a default in the global-settings section, or if you don't, whatever you put first is the default. However, the other options are just a few keys away at boot time, and you can add a message file to display them - read the man page for lilo.conf for details. Any time you change lilo.conf OR the message file OR recompile or move a kernel or a map file, you have to run lilo to update the boot sector. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Have you set the gateway IP for your network card in YaST? -- B. L. That (10.*/8) is a private network, which means that if you are going out to the internet at all, someone is proxying or masquerading on your behalf. Implicitly, you have a firewall.

Yep. However, if a GOOD proxy is installed, the clients don't have to be told about it: it works transparently. GOOD proxies are standard with Linux, but I don't think they are available for NT.

Firewalls are often configured to block ping and traceroute. Looks like that's the way yours is set up.

/* comments ... */ search jetpa.com.tr nameserver 10.10.10.1

Become the administrator responsible for your firewall. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
