RE: [SLE] PCMCI on Toshiba Tecra8000
I have SuSE 6.3 & Xircom 10/100 + 56K - 2 out of 3 ain't bad! (1) pcmcia doesn't care about how you compile the kernel, just make sure it's the right version for the kernel (see /usr/src/linux/Documentation/changes). pcmcia in 6.3 using the supplied 2.1.13 is fine. (2) that may be your problem :) - pcmcia is kernel version specific. (3) don't recall having to do this. What I'd do .......... reinstall the pcmcia package from the cd, reboot, run cardmgr & check if the pcmcia slot properly initialises at boot and gives you both ethernet & modem. If it does you don't need to touch the config. On Wednesday, March 15, 2000 3:03 PM, Patrick Colbeck [SMTP:pat.colbeck@esc.azlan.co.uk] wrote:
Reply-To: Hi
I am having real problems getting a Xircom Cardbus 10/100 +56K modem card to run on SuSE 6.3 in a Tecra8000.
With the kind help of David Hinds I am slowly getting further but at the moment when I shutdown the laptop it hangs stopping eth0.
David doesnt have a Tosh, SuSE or a Xircom card so he is kind of stuck at the moment. Before I send hime a complet crash dump I wonder if I am doing something wrong from the SuSE point of view.
I have done the following
1. Compiled a custome kernel - this works oK but Xircom card fails to load.
2. Downloaded the latest beta pcmcia drivers and compiled and installed them.
3. Copied the original SuSE /sbin/init.d/pcmcia over the one installed by the new pcmcia drivers (found a hint in SuSE support database saying do this).
Did I miss something ?
Thanks
Pat
