[opensuse] Firefox plugin needed

x-ms-wmp should be supported from mplayerplug-in but you need a compatible player. AFAIK MPlayer is able to play that (I'm not sure if only with the w32libs or native though). Even with the latest flash plug-in, I couldn't get this one to open using Firefox. However, after re-scanning for plug-ins, I did manage to get further with Konqueror. With Firefox I received a "you don't satisfy our requirements" error in the player window. With Konqueror, I had the player load but was still unable to watch the video. It looks like it is looking for a specific application to play it, not a file type. My mplayerplug-in list video/x-ms-wmp, but this is looking for application/x-ms-wmp. I haven't figured out how to add a type for mplayerplug-in to see if it would work if it recognized it should play it. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.2 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have been following this thread for some time. Please go to the following URL: http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60/ This is called the Jem Report on version 10.2 of SUSE. It is about 'Hacking' Suse to allow it to play multimedia. Novel/Suse does not ship a version of most players that can play versions of multimedia formats that are propietary or copywrited for licensing reasons. There are, however, good repositories (such as Packman) that have everything you will need and are referred to in the article pointed to in the above mentioned article. Once you perform the very easy steps mentioned, you will be able to play DVD's, AVI's, streaming videos including the ones from YouTube and all of the news agencies I have tried and of course all of the M$ formats I am aware of. I wouldn't be surprised if you have run into a 64-bit issue. Do you have a 32-bit version of Firefox loaded with the 32-bit mplayer handy? I'll bet all will work. Possibly. Firefox on the 10.1 machine is the 32bit v1.5.0.7, while on the 10.2 machine it is the 64bit v2.0.0.2. Strangely, the 64bit version of Konqueror on both 10.1 and 10.2 will work with your video. This implies it's specifically a Firefox problem.

As you can see from my .sig I have a mix of machines and, with the exception of flash not working with a 64bit Firefox, I've not really noticed any problems. I've also not noticed much in the way of extra speed on the 64bit systems, but that is totally beside the point. As Kai points out, it's probably a 64bit issue with Firefox, as the 32bit version works just fine on a 10.1 system. How come you all assumed that my problem was related to no 64-bit support? I have a 32 bit system with Flash 9 and still cannot view the videos that some on this list say that they can watch. So far, I have not seen any reply that comes close to a solution, just a lot of going off on tangents. For those who missed the original post, go to this link, let the commercial run and when the news item starts to play, see if it will work on your system. If it does, let me know your configuration, because it bloody well doesn't play here and I have Flash 9, Firefox 2.0.0.2 and Mplayerplug-in 3.40. And just in case there is some ambiguity to my statements, I can view most videos located at Yahoo.com's video section. Just not the type mentioned above which says I need a plugin. The first streamed video is in WMV format and, for some reason, the MPlayer plugin isn't being used to process it. Checking right now, the next video appears to be in an FLV format, and that one does play.

Flash works fine here with a 64bit Konqueror and a 32bit Flash. A 64bit Firefox doesn't work with the Flash plugin, and I've not tried any of the others to see if they do. In my case, on a 64bit 10.2 system, the 64bit Firefox can't load the 32bit Flash library. However, as I mentioned before, Konqueror on that same system will load the 32bit Flash[0]. This leads me to believe the problem is with Firefox.
