Re: [SLE] Installing SuSE 9.2 onto Adaptec HostRaid

I had some nasty experiences with an Adaptec 2120 controller that crashed very reliable under Suse 9.1 (aacraid module) as soon as big files were copied on/off the raid array. The only solution at that time was to use kernel 2.4 with Suse 9.0. That combination is still working stable as a samba server.
Next week I'll try Suse 9.2 with LSI Raid Controller. The vendor claims it will work and the driver seems to be included in Suse 9.2. Let's give it a week to run and I'll write about my experience. (^-^)
Which model LSI? I would love to find a less expensive hardware RAID card (with onboard processor and memory) for use in some workstations. At about $450 the Intel RAID adapter is fine for our relatively expensive servers, but not for workstations. Software RAID has a lot of pluses, but my experience shows hardware RAID (that works) requires a lot less attention and time invested. I would prefer that it have RAID 5 capability so I can use 3 disks and get better speed than a simple RAID 1 configuration.
LSI53C1020 Ultra320 SCSI Controller 64bit. I don't think the controller is cheaper than the adaptec, so cost reasons are not viable to choose the LSI controller. For the new server I simply need a hardware raid controller that won't give me any trouble and is able to have a drive replaced while all services are running. Sandy PS: Please list replies only.
