You want to burn the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder to the same folder in the k3b DVD structure. Go to new project, then select Video DVD. Make SURE it's VIDEO DVD. Then drag the contents of your "ripped" VIDEO_TS directory to inside the VIDEO_TS directory on your video DVD project in k3b. -Khanh

I went and installed dvdbackup on my SuSE 9.2 system. Using Sid's command above appears to work like a charm. The directory listing under /home/eck is shown below: The question I have is do I burn the entire directory at the MOVIE_TITLE level or do I burn the DVD at the VIDEO_TS level? Also, do the attached list of files look correct?
My version of K3b is 0.11.15cvs. Any problems expected with that version? I hate to start burning 7 dollar coasters (double layer DVD).
Thanks for any help, Terry

Actually I have the full Lxdvdrip installed and have a number of options to use for ripping and burning, including dvdbackup and vobcopy. but i did have to install dvdshrink under wine in order to compress files that are bigger than 4.7 gigs. And yes i do have the problem of wine not seeing the dvd drive, just like the original poster on this thread. While dvd shrink can work off of files extracted to disk by dvdbackup, the situation might be different for dvddecrypter and this might become an issue if libdvdcss starts falling behind some time in the future. so I ask a couple of questions: 1. Is there an equivalent to dvdshrink in Linux? 2. Is there a way to get wine to see an ide dvd without scsi emulation? I tried it but then I had problems with linux not seeing the drive and took it out. Or perhaps a mini howto for converting to scsi emulation in 9.2/9.3 -x86-64 versions, IF there is no performance penalty in linux?

First of all I'd like to thank Sid Boyce and Khanh Tran for giving me help in copying a DVD movie. Sid for the info on dvdbackup and Khanh for answering what files to copy. I now have developed a real problem on my SuSE 9.2 system. Up until today I had no problems playing DVD movies using xine. I installed libdvdcss and was able to get xine to work for the last few months. Now for some reason I'm getting the following when I run xine: ============================================================ eck@DeathStar:~> xine This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.2. Check dmesg to see if there are any clues during boot. I take it you've not rearranged your disks, having 2 master drives on that IDE port. Swap it to another IDE port, say hdb and set the BIOS to boot from cdrom to test it's not failing, with a bad primary IDE port, I swapped the DVD from /dev/hdb to /dev/hdc and it booted without any other changes. I think I found the possible problem. My DVD drive is either dirty of somehow defective. I tried inserting the SuSE 9.2 DVD (1) into /dev/dvd and it took a long time to finally show what is on the disk. I decided to disable the DVD drive in YAST (remove the link /dev/dvd > hde) and created my own link (dev/dvd > hdc). The drive connected to hdc is a dvd writer with several links: /dev/cdrom, /dev/dvdrecorder, and now /dev/dvd. In summary XINE now works great. I guess over the weekend I'll check out the "defective" dvd device. Maybe it is simply a dirty lens. -- SuSE Linux 9.2 (i586) -- 2.6.8-24.16-default -- Mon 07/18/05 9:20pm up 1:34, 3 users, load average: 0.24, 0.26, 0.28
