more Digital Camera issues with SUSE 9.0 upgrades
SuSE 9.0 with apt-get upgrades was recognizing the usb digital camera at /dev/sda1 until the upgrade last weekend. Now the usb system does not beep after camera is turned on. YAST sees and identifies the camera, but I can't mount it: mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device /var/log/messages shows: kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:11.2-2, assigned address 12 kernel: usb.c: USB device 12 (vend/prod 0x4cb/0x112) is not claimed by any active driver. modprobe: modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.21-202-athlon/modules.dep (No such file or directory) There is not a 2.4.21-202 directory, but now there is a -215 directory. ls -l /lib/modules/2.4.21-_________ -215-athlon -override-athlon I just now did another apt-get upgrade to see if anything changed. There was only one upgrade: SuSE/9.0-i386/update cvs 1.11.6-81 [518kB] Where do I go from here? TIA
Hello, It seems you upgraded the kernel. Have you reinited the system 'ala windows style'. Perhaps it helps. Guillermo.

You need to restart your system since you have installed a new kernel, 215 vs 202. Then, if your camera is still not recognized, with the camera on and attached to system, as root issue: /sbin/rchotplug restart and wait, it takes a couple of minutes. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711

Yep, you and Guillermo are right. Everything else worked, until I wanted to examine some pictures. Thanks much for getting me straightened out. Maybe I should shut this CAD box down more often :-)

No, *only* to change/replace/install hardware or a new kernel! The rest of the time, linux *should* not need/require rebooting. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711
