Hi. Have had to perform this twice this week. It worked but it's worrying to say the least as we run a 24/7 server here. Could this be the end of the disk perhaps? Both times were after a SuSE YOU update. I'm on 10.0 Advice? Steve.

Advice? Steve.
How old is the hard drive? It could just be that there was a problem installing the updates. Did the updates take place successfully? Was there a crash after the updates? Something I have done with hard drives that I was receiving error messages from was to do a disk image with a product like Acronis or Copy Commander, reformat the disk from scratch and then restore the drive image. This is a significant job and may not be practical with a 24/7 server unless you have a lot of alternative capacity. If the hard drive has SMART capabilities, you should be getting some warning message if there is a physical problem. I know - lots of possibilities. If you want a strong diagnostic utility, you might want to check out SpinRite. http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm Good luck Ralph Ellis
