I had SuSE 7.3 running with 2.4.10 kernel and GeForce 2 Go card, but updated the kernel following wolfi email. Everything seemed to go alright, done
I booted from the CD, when manual installation got to section where I could select "boot installed system", I selected that. After logon, I ran Lilo, installed the NVIDIA kernel and GLX 1.0-2313, rebooted, and was back to normal. Even tried some of the Fn keys, no more lockups. I ran gears, It comes in at 714 fps which is twice as fast as before, but if I go to full screen (1600x1200), I get 45 FPS. Is there anyway to get this increased? Kernel is 2.4.17-7 and console comes up with NVRM: loading NVIDIA NVdriver Kernel Module 1.0.2313 agprt: agpart: Detected an Intel i815, but could not find the secondary device. Machine is Dell Inspiron 8100 with 1600x1200 UVGA screen. Hi Art, After mk_initrd, do not forget to rerun lilo! This is supposed to have been also in wolfi email:-) In your case, boot from CD and reinstall the CD kernel, and then start once more. Acc. to your email, you simply forgot to run lilo. Cheers ..... I've been trying to configure my scanner (Epson Perfection 1200U) for over a week now and it's driving me bonkers. YaST2 detects it correctly and supposedly configures it but when I get to the test page, it won't test. The scanner field (on the test page) shows the correct scanner, however, the device field shows "/dev/usbscanner". I tried to edit the epson config in the /etc/sane.d directory so that it either reads "usb /dev/usb/scanner0" or "/dev/usb/scanner0" but it keeps being written over with "/dev/usbscanner." Needless to say, that directory does not exist. The 1200U is not on the !&*# list for incompatible scanners (just the 1250U). If anyone has an idea how to fix this I would be eternally grateful! Zach

Hi Zach, I suggest you have a look at http://freecolormanagement.com/sane/ There are some notes on getting the Epson scanners working with SuSE which may help you. Regards, Graham Smith ----------------------------------------

I certainly appreciate the url but I've been there, done that and it still didn't work. I did go through the site a little more thoroughly though. I may just wait until SuSE 7.4 (or 8.0) and hopefully they'll have it fixed without having to go through all that configuration crud again. I don't use the scanner but my wife does so whenever she needs it, it'll be reboot to Win2000 time. Thanks anyway... Zach
I may be naive, but couldn't you create a /dev/usbscanner and then link it to the /dev/usb/scanner directory ? Pete On Saturday 19 January 2002 21:55, you wrote:
