dear all, I am trying to get a webcam to work on suse linux enterprise server 9. Apparently (one of ) 'the' packages to 'read' the cam, would be "webcam", part of xawtv. I tested on my personal suse 9 system, where this package exists. But after installation, the "webcam" program isn't there. (Even though http://linux.bytesex.org/xawtv/ says that "webcam" is part of the xawtv package) But anyway, that was just for testing, I really need the cam on another system, running sles9, so tried installing it there. It detects the cam, but much to my surprise I found that the package xawtv isn't there. It's NOT in the available packages. I was under the impression that the packages available on sles9 were the same as on the 'normal' suse versions. Apparently I was wrong..? Or is there something wrong in my sles9 setup? (also I cannot find sane and camE on that sles9 system) What to do? (My goal is to upload a capture from the cam every few seconds to a remote location. (via scp for example)) Thanks in advance! Mourik Jan

Not sure if this will help, but it works great for me:
http://www.smcc.demon.nl/camstream/
Just get the latest snapshot and do the ./configure and all.

Historically webcam has always been part of xawtv. When I installed SuSE 9.2 I noticed for the first time it was separated. I am not totally sure about this, but check SuSE's v4l-tools package and see if webcam is in there. I've checked it, and yes, it is in there. Thanks for clearing that up! But now the second question... I'm really trying to get this all up and running on suse linux enterprise server 9. And I can find NONE of those packages (xawtv, v4l, etc) there. Is it true that these are NOT included in the enterprise server? (maybe I should ask on a enterprise server specific list..? does such a list exist?) Kind regards, Mourik Jan

Sorry, I've just found and subscribed to that list. (it's suse-sles-e) I'll ask my last question there, I guess that would be the appropriate place to ask. Thanks very much! Mourik Jan
