Mark; Yes, I know that Nvidia does not support DRI and DMA as of yet and the answer is that they will not relaease the code so a linux driver can be written. That said, using the package Mesa, included in the Suse distribution for 6.4 produces a very nice display. Much better rendering than the standard XFrree86 - Kde. Hope that helps. As for Your font problem, I didn't have that problem and am not sure why you are. I went back to 3.3.5 as soon as I realized my card wasn't truely supported by V4.0. Maybe I just didn't go far enough with it.
