Hi everyone.
We want to delete the Linux partition we created via fips and yast, set the whole disk back to windoze and start again. (reasons too complicated to explain but we need to know how to do this!). fdisk under DOS will not let us delete the partition which it sees as extended DOS and not ext2. We have a bootable CD and 6.4 and a ruined linux on /dev/hda/5, 6 and 7. No, it is beyond fsck.
You have two problems here, you just haven't noticed the second one yet. The first problem is that you need to run the Linux fdisk in order to get rid of your existing partitions. But you don't have Linux on the system. One solution would be to start the install process with YaST (not YaST2). This install process will let you into fdisk. You can delete the existing partitions, save your work, and then turn off the computer (generally a bad idea because of risk of damage to files, but in this context - what files?) to terminate the install. The suggestion of running the DOS/Windows FDISK with the /mbr parameter will do absolutely nothing about your leftover partitions. However, the SECOND problem is that you probably have a boot loader (most likely lilo) in the Master Boot Record of the hard drive. FDISK /mbr will take care of that for you. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
