adaptec aic7902 (module aic79xx) don't load on sles9
Hi, We currently have a server with the above mention SCSI card. We are trying to install SLES9, but are failing to load the modules for the SCSI adapter. We tried loading the Adaptec RAID (aacraid) module - which loaded successfully, but when we continue to YaST, it claims there are no hard disks. When trying to load the AIC79xx module (AIC7902), which is allegedly the the module for this card, it comes up saying it failed to load the module. The AIC79xx module must work... What's wrong? Regards...

You'll have to provide some diagnostics - pertinent output from dmesg, maybe /var/log/messages. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution.

What happens when you use "insmod aic7xxx"? Sandy -- List replies only please! Please address PMs to: news-reply2 (@) japantest (.) homelinux (.) com

-- Hi Sebastian well done for choosing SuSE. We will need some more information from you in order to be able to help. Do you use an ADSL modem? Is it a USB modem? Do you use an ethernet router type modem? We'll certainly do our best to help but we do need to know a little more :-)

Ok, next question. Have you used this succesfully with either Apple or a Micorsoft set up? With this hardware being a router I would have thought that you need to access it via the usual web browser interface. Am I correct here? I have found some mention of the hardware on Google but mainly just ISPs stating they supply it. Does it connect via an ethernet cable? -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. Well, I could only tell you what I have to do for a new connection with my ADSL ethernet modem router. I have a Aztech 4 port router which is connected with my ethernett card. From the manual of the maker of the Router I learned

My advice, look into the manual for the address of your router. In Mozilla/Firefox I enter this address and after giving my username for the router as admin and leave the password blank (seems the standard setting for routers) I am then receiving a site from my router which has to be filled in with username for your ISP and the password and than such details as the protocol to be used (in my case PPPoA VC-Mux) and the values of VPI and VCI. These details you should get from your provider. After inserting these details I have to press a connect button in order to see my ADSL connection coming up. In case of a loss of the ADSL connection I go to the same site and reconnect there. Hope that this helps you with your ADSL setup.

Sebastian. Is this your modem? http://www.freecall-uk.co.uk/adslexample/morerouter.htm If so then it certainly should be supported by Linux. I would say that it will be a case of entering the correct address for the modem/router in Firefox or Konqueror (or whichever is your favoured browser) and entering your details as given by your ISP. I can't be any more specific as the layout will be a bit different to mine (D Link DSL 504) and other peoples. There should be similarities though. Please let us know how you progress. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. Start YaST, (Start, ->System, -> Control Center (YaST) Select Network Devices, and then choose DSL, follow the steps. HTH
