You are attempting to use a swap device that does not exist. Correct that.

So should I change the kernel command parameters in the boot config/menu.lst to point to /dev/sdc5 which is the swap partition defined in fstab? How could this get corrupted in the first place?

or will running the above fix this as well? Is there any chance that the system will become unstable with the above command? Thanks for you help. Allen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Gremblins! .-p

Probably.

It shouldn't. Cars run, the vcr record movies, the computer runs... usually. Can your mechanic ensure you that the car will not break down any time? :-p - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Carlos and everybody that has commented, thank you for you help in fixing this up. I am nearly there, but a GRUB problem has now presented itself. See below ... On Thu, 2008-02-14 at 00:20 +0100, Carlos E. R. wrote:

I changed the reference to the swap and rebooted. Then I ran mk_initrd and it found a number of kernels from 2.6.22.13 up to 2.6.22.17-0.1. When I rebooted again, the grub screen showed still the old 2.6.22.13 kernel. I went into software update and upgraded to the latest kernel (again), rebooted and grub failed to boot. using the GRUB command line I set "root (hd0,0) which allowed my kernel to boot. I then went into device.map and changed the one line to read (hd0) /dev/sdc and also changed the menu.lst so that all entries had root (hd0,0) as the first line. Now the system boots OK, but I don't have the fancy green GRUB boot screen. Any ideas how I can get it to boot to the green screen? You must have some old kernels listed in the menu.lst file

:-(

That should be a line similar to this near the beginning of the file: gfxmenu (hd0,5)/message Ie, pointing to "/boot/message". - -- Cheers, Carlos E. It is saying you are out of room in your /boot. Is it a separate partition? It is too small. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: Free diskspace below /boot: 27150120 blocks It is saying you are out of room in your /boot. Is it a separate partition? It is too small. The error message is misleading, but it doesn't say that. Even Marcus Meissner misread it earlier. Maybe it could be improved ?

It is merely informing of the free space, which is large.

It certainly should. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
