I had this happen about 2 days ago..and the caps lock key stayed on even when I dropped out of X...I couldn't do anything and the caps lock key was not pushed...I had to do the 3 finger solute and reboot..then was fine. I just chalked it up to a glitch and it hasn't happened since. my 0.02 -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org SuSE Linux 6.3 (2.2.14) ICQ UIN:49268667 ------------------------------------------------------------ " Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom " --Gen. Now this *is* interesting... I've been having similar problems, except that it isn't just in Netscape that this happens, also console, etc. The reason for the caps is not because CapsLock has been pressed, but because it thinks the shift key is being pressed. This also the reason why Netscape gives you the Save As... dialog box when you click a link - this is what usually happens when you press *shift* and click a link (remember, Netscape thinks you are pressing shift on these occasions). Now to explain why it came off caps during your message: you were typing a capital 'I', so you pressed shift. This is how you stop it doing it - you have to press shift again. This is where it gets annoying - I see that it is typing in caps, so I hit CapsLock. When that doesn't fix it I remember that it is probably the shift key playing up, so I hit shift. That still doesn't fix it, because I hit CapsLock earlier, remember? ;-) So then I have to press CapsLock again and all is back to normal. Phew. So basically, whenever this happens to you, just press the shift key again. Anyway, what really caught my eye was the fact that you're running IMWheel. I'm also running IMWheel, so there could possibly be a connection. When I find time I'll disable IMWheel for a while and see if it still happens... Also, just out of interest, what is the make and model of your keyboard and mouse? Hope you got some useful info. out of all that, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

The keyboard is made Samsung SEM C19D2 with Turksik qwert layout pcwindows 104 keys available the mice is a cheap one called 4D wineasy A4 Tech and I didn't do anything special regarding the imwheel I just selected it from the YaSt for gpm and also in the XF86 Config I added the ZaxMapping 4 5 along with the imwheel & in the .xinitrc file that all I did and it is working great Thanks for the information Togan Muftuoglu toganm@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ok I think the strange keyboard behaviour is caused by imwheel itself. What I understand from the imwheel readme file it is not designed for the MSwindows 104 key mapping and there is a part regarding KYSMS which I think is responsible for the unwanted caps lock and other keyboard behaviours as I just realized I have difficulty typing @ since on my turkish keyboard this is right Alt+q I even have problems with the same letter when I switch to the Us keyboard layout where I have to press Shift+2. When I stop using the imwheel the problem does not exists. Now the solution frankly speaking as a newcomer to Linux I think I will wait until some one points a to me how to fix it or till I feel myself comfortable to play with the files. It took me 1 week to have the Turkish characters displayed in my X environment in order to get the ISO8859-9 turkish fonts working with XF86Config since the howto Turkish is based on RH and the links are not the same in Suse. Anyway to cut the story short I think the answer is in the Imwheel readme file. If anybody can correct the keyboard problem I will appreciate if they post a message to the list Thanks -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have had the same problem with the capslock key and I am using a 3 button Logitech Mouseman and an *shudder* MS Ergo Keyboard. It only happened once, but I am not running imwheel..so what could cause my capslock key to stick eh? just my question of the day :) Togan Muftuoglu wrote:

Like I said, I don't think it's the CapsLock key. Anyway, I've noticed another similarity here - I'm using a Logitech MouseMan wheel... and an ergonomic keyboard (Logitech as well). Of course, it's highly unlikely that this is anything to do with the keyboard being ergonomic ;-)

That's it! I have the same type of mouse that has imwheel and at
install I think SuSE picked up on it and it's probably stored in a
file some of you might know of. Is there a way to disable it?
in fact I have another SuSE install in the same room and it works
fine using only a 2 button generic mouse.
Thanks for your help guys,
Dave Willcox :-)
