[SuSE Linux] X Question
I just recently installed SUSE Linux 5.2 on a Dell Latitude Xpi. Everything went fine until I tried to configure the NeoMagic Video Card. I am using XF86Setup to setup X, and the configuration seems to complete OK, but when I try to startx, I get an error message and the system bombs. I am trying to use 740X680 resolution. The startx will work if I use a 640X480 configuration. Any suggestions? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

ounds like your monitor won't support the 740x680 resolution... you might try using sax to set up x. it's a fair amound better than xf86setup when you can use it.... -derek "Winter's hateful battle raging on, Rocket's flying towards the glowing sun, Pollution fills the land, the air, and sea, Man prepares to meet his destiny...." Use sax - by typing "sax". Then put your resolution on "800X600". 740X640 will _not_ be very well supported by most monitors. Bye & gl. PS - A note; - you can blow your monitor / video card by pushing it to hard.

Hi, If you "blow" the monitor will it still work in some resolutions or not work at all. I have a monitor problem as posted to this list earlier. When I try to start X server or the Game total annihilation I have a "tic tic" sounds coming from the monitor and no display at all, In TA If I wait sometimes it work ( the display finally appear). I can reproduce this "bug" it with the DirextX Diag program by testing direct draw in full screen mode. but sometimes the display works sometimes not !! Is my monitor "frieed" at some resolutions ?? Do anybody have a clue on what is happening ?? May I have cause this by unproperly setting the monitor in XF86config ??? Any input will be greatly appreciated Best regards GH Portefait D Anich wrote:

Based on my fried monitor, I doubt it. Yes - I toasted one. It stopped working completely. I didn't - it was under warranty and Computer City fixed it. Took them three months, but it was fixed.
